Indie Genre Research

Today our group had a meeting at Jonny's House to establish whether to change genre from R&B. [Details shown in the voice recording below].
Following this, we have chosen English Indie Pop as our genre. By definition "Indie pop is a genre of alternative rock music that originated in the United Kingdom in the mid 1980s", so we will draw influences from this genre which now creates a hybrid. Modern examples include:

- The Kooks
- Arctic Monkeys
- Razorlight

As part of my research I looked into the kind of clothing seen worn by indie bands to add realism to our band and mise-en-scene of the music video. I found:

- "Vintage T-Shirts" (Indie T Shirts)
- Tight Jeans
- "Vintage  leather jackets"
- Nike / "Macbeth Shoes" For example:

N.B. Converse shoes do not tend to be categorised as "indie" as they are now particularly mainstream."

Extras / Acessories

- Scarves
- Sunglasses
- Jewellery / Wristbands

Many of the target audience for the indie genre go to shows and concerts. They take care of their image and aim to set trends for clothing. Independent labels (which the term "indie music" is  derived from) usually have higher quality and more authentic music.
