How to shoot a music video and tips for making a good music video

Out of interest I was researching how to make music videos and the website below I found lots of information on how to shoot a good music video:

URL: http://musicians.about.com/od/musicindustrybasics/ss/makeavideo.htm

The following are the titles for the sections on the above website that give information on how to shoot a music video:

  • 'Choose Your Song'
  • 'Get a Team and Equipment Together'
  • 'Plan Your Shoot'
  • 'Filming'
  • 'Capture Live Footage' - This is where the artist is in performance and the audience and artist are filmed for use in the music video
  • 'Use Stock Footage' - This is footage that has already been shot and is not shot for the purpose of the video
  • 'Editing'
  • 'Get the Right Software and Hardware'
  • 'Be Creative'
These titles and the information given helped me to see how to plan and produce a music video and the way to get the best out of shooting it in the space of time that we have.
Some of these may not be possible like 'Capture Live Footage' because we are producing our own band we will not have performances to film and also if we try to create the performance we may struggle slightly to get a large enough audience and to create and light effects and audience reaction as though they are watching a real performance.
Also another thing that we do not need to take notice of is 'Get the Right Software and Hardware' because we only have access to the software that the school have supplied us with which is Final Cut Express - and from AS I have used this software and understand how to use it.
