Other artists responses

When were began seeking permission we sent messages to several artists. We very few responses however we did recieve a response from The Riot Tapes which are the band we have chosen to use the track from. We also recieved responses from Sink to See and Ghostlight.
Ghostlight we felt were going to be difficult to work with because they wanted to see the storyboard and agree with the ideas we have and because of our short amount of time this was just not practical.
Sink to See were another favourite and unfortunatly their response ended up in my Spam Folder so I have only just found out it was there, however now we have chosen our artist. The messages between the two bands are shown below. I have sent a response to Sink to See to appologise for not getting back to them sooner and thanking them for the permission and explaining why we have chosen another aritst.

This would be for educational purposes only, however as part of our coursework we would need to post our work on youtube.
It would be good to hear from you soon,
Yours Sincerely,

Hi Grace

How did you find the band?

Can't see it being a problem but I'll need to run it past the band.

Have you bought their songs available on iTunes?

Cheers

Hi

I found the band from mp3 unsigned and also myspace. Nope I have not bought the songs because I have been online streaming and listening online and as a group we liked the music.

If you could ask the band asap and get back to me that would be great as we need to start planning our video soon and will need to look for some other music if using the music is not a possibility.

Thanks for the reply anyway

Hope to hear from you soon

Grace

Hi Grace

No buying music is becoming a thing of the past.......

Can you please give me an outline of the video and which track you want to use.

At least you had the courtesy to ask first.

So this could be good for all of us.

Cheers

Hi

If you would like us to buy your music and use it this way that's not a problem! The only reason we have not done anything like that yet is that we have only been researching artists and different music to use. We have not as of yet decided on a track or a story as we were waiting for a response. As part of our coursework we have to gain permission from the artist which is why we were writing to ask. It would be great if we could have the permission without the need to buy the music but if this is not the case then not to worry.

We are still in the process of researching music so if you would prefer for us not to use the music then we can search else where for a different artist however after trolling through hours of music online we found yours to be one of our favourites.

Hope to hear from you soon

Hi Grace

Forgot to mention. Non of your emails come with any information about what college you're at or what course you're doing. This again is essential information for a big band.

The principles for a small band are the same though.  It's just obvious that a small band is keener to be used so will say yes to anything.......even giving their mothers away..........

Hope this helps

Hi

I am currently at sixth form at Newport Free Grammar School in Essex and i am studying Media Studies which is what we have to create a music video for.

Thanks for all the information you have supplied. I will have to consult my group on all of this and get back to you when i can. The reason as said before that we haven’t chosen a song yet and begun planning the video is because we have a limited amount of time and so have to have a secure artist before we begin this process as we have limited time and our coursework must be finsished by Christmas.
However, I understand what you are saying.
Hope to hear from you soon

Hi Grace

Ok I'm glad you understand the principles. Yes you can use Ghostlights music for a 'student' project provided we see the story board first.

I don't want the music used for images that the band do not support. I'm not talking about the odd shot here, but the story and images in general.

This is common practice.  To be honest, at this level, for you and the band, you'd have been better off just doing it, as no one would ever know.

But as you're learning.............you may as well do it properly.

Then next time you'll be able to get Radiohead's music!

Talk soon

Thanks very much and that is no problem. I will get back to you once i have consulted the group.

As i said before as part of the coursework we have to get permission so we contacted you not realising that the band was signed as we found them on mp3unsigned.com.

Anyway thanks and be in contact soon

Hi

Thanks for the opportunity to use your music however since we are limited on time we are going to go with another artist. It is a requirement of our coursework to ask permission from the artist. We greatly appreciate your offer but it’s not going to be easy for us to send your our storyboard and work as we work on the project.

Thanks Once again

Grace
